Designer's Corner

Published: July 2014

Having been in the world of interior design for 10 years, Jennifer Fagalde knows what’s trending for every room in the house.

Her credentials include being an Allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers, a member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association and a certified professional in window fashions. FaGalde, whose business is based in Folsom and her client base extends throughout the Sacramento region, enjoys getting to know her clients’ tastes before she begins any design work and she said she is especially delighted to create spaces in the homes of her clients that will create long term happiness.

“I truly love this business and when it comes to interior design, I always like to stay ahead of what’s happening,” FaGalde said. “And what’s happening today is definitely a clean, less cluttered, less fussy look.”

Mixing it Up

FaGalde said many clients are requesting a transitional look for their homes, which can include a mixture of contemporary and traditional styles. Remodeling kitchens and baths, where she said glass accents in tile and stone are all the rage, is a big part of her business. In addition, porcelain tile that looks like marble, solid surfaces, leathered granite and large format tile are popular for these two rooms.

“I also recently discovered three dimensional tiles for backsplashes that have quite unique designs,” she said. “And the new style in backsplashes extends behind vanities and up to the ceiling in many cases.”

For those homeowners who prefer wallpaper, FaGalde said large scale patterns, grass cloth and even flocked wallpaper in all colors and tones is making a resurgence especially in powder room baths and accent walls. Large scale patterns and embroidery designs are a few good options for drapes and plaid patterns, inspired by men’s suits, are bold ways to upholster side chairs or even bedroom headboards.

If you are in the market to purchase a few furniture pieces, FaGalde recommends looking for sofas, loveseats and chairs with clean lines, absent of overstuffed arms, paired with tables that do not match each other.

“The burl tree trunk look for a coffee table or end tables works in a lot of settings,” FaGalde said. “It’s eclectic, modern and natural.”

Just the Right Look

Making sure a room is perfectly put together requires just the right flooring, which can include carpet, tile or wood. Carpet today is available in a variety of pile sizes and patterns and FaGalde said she also often uses distressed wide planked wood and tile that looks like wood.

On the lighting front, FaGalde said large industrial styles with exposed light bulbs provide a bold, retro effect that works in many homes.

“There are so many amazing options in interior design,” she said. “No matter the size of the project or preferences of the client, there is a style that fits each person perfectly.”

" We met Jennifer at the Sacramento Home Show when we were looking for a decorator to help with our home. Jennifer came to our house so she would know what we currently had and what we wanted for our new design. Jennifer is very personable and professional. She had great ideas and our home turned out great. We love it!! We have more projects and will definitely call her when we are ready to move forward. "
